Kestrel Heights High School 2016-2017 Dress-Code
Parents/guardians are expected to ensure that students attend school dressed in accordance with the dress code. Students with inappropriate dress will be asked to take the necessary steps to correct the violation. Parents/guardians may be contacted to provide appropriate attire in the event the violation cannot be corrected at school. Efforts will be made to correct the violation with the least disruption to instructional time as possible. However, a student will not be permitted to return to class until the violation is corrected and time missed from class (es) will be considered unexcused. Repeated or extreme violations will be cause for disciplinary action.
Students will be expected to be in a complete uniform daily Monday through Thursday.
Students are permitted to wear “Kestrel gear” tops (no hoodies, even if they are Kestrel hoodies) only on Fridays. Uniform pants/bottoms MUST be worn on Fridays with “Kestrel gear” tops. Special days (senior privilege, class shirts, dress down days, etc. will be decided upon by the staff and announced as determined).
Components of the uniform: Polo Shirts: Color options: red, black, white, navy blue Shirts should be tucked in at all times.
Khaki/twill material Bottoms (pants, shorts, skirts): Color options: khaki, black, navy blue Length of shorts/skirts: 2” from top of kneecap AND from crease at back of knee Leggings are permitted but ONLY under appropriate length shorts and skirts. Leggings must be a solid color, no prints. Tights, footed or footless, may also be worn under appropriate length shorts and skirts. Tights must be a solid color, no prints.
Sweaters/Jackets: Kestrel logo permitted, no other logos Solid colors: red, black, white, navy blue No hoods permitted (tucking hoods inside of sweatshirts is not acceptable) Uniform polo shirt must be worn underneath at all times (as described above) No “outdoor gear” permitted in the classroom (jackets, coats, gloves, scarves and other garments appropriate to outdoor wear are not to be worn in the classroom and should be stored in a student’s locker)
Shoes: All shoes must have backs (no slides, no flip flops, no crocs w/out backs, etc.). Shoes must be worn at all times. No house shoes or slippers are permitted.
Jewelry/Headgear/External Garments: Glasses and sunglasses (unless prescribed by a physician) are not allowed. Bandanas and non traditional head scarves are not permitted. Hats or headgear of any kind are not allowed. Headbands properly worn as a hair accessory are acceptable. However, they may not have any logos. Jewelry is allowed; however, necklaces should be tucked inside students shirts and can be banned on an individual basis if it becomes a distraction to students or faculty/staff. Clothing required by the tenets of a student’s religious tradition, such as headscarves or yarmulkes, are allowed. Anything worn by a student that is causing a distraction to the school environment will be addressed by the school staff, which could include the removal of the item.
